Amateur football leagues and cups in Budapest
Leagues, knockout cups and group stages: how to enter a tournament with your team or solo.
Weekly games are great. A tournament gives them something to play for. Hosts on PitchUp run leagues and cups across Budapest, and you can enter with your own team or on your own. Here is how they work and how to get in.
Three tournament formats
- League: every team plays each other and the table decides the winner. Best if you want a guaranteed number of games.
- Cup: straight knockout. Win and go through, lose and go home. Short and dramatic.
- Groups + Knockout: a group stage first, then the top teams play the knockout rounds. The format of most big tournaments.
How to enter
- Find a tournament in the app, with its dates, format, team limit and prize.
- Apply as a team or solo. Captains apply with their squad. Solo players sign up on their own, and the host places them in a team.
- Get accepted. The host approves each entry. Any entry fee is shown before you apply.
- Play it out. Fixtures, standings and the bracket update in the app as results come in.
Picking the right tournament
Check the format and the number of teams first. A league with eight teams means seven games or more; a cup can be over in one evening. Then look at the game format: 5v5 and 6v6 tournaments need fewer players per team, so they are easier to enter with a small group of friends.
Running your team
- Have a few subs. Injuries and work trips happen, especially over a league season.
- Agree on colours so the host does not have to sort out bibs.
- Arrive early on match days. Tournament schedules are tight and kick-offs run to time.
Want to run your own tournament?
Hosts can create leagues and cups in the app and manage fixtures, results and standings in one place. If you already organise a weekly game, a tournament is a natural next step.
