Plenty of women in Budapest want to play football but don't have a team, don't know where games happen, or have only found clubs that train three times a week. Pickup football fixes that. You book one spot in an organised game, turn up and play. This guide covers where women can play in Budapest, what it costs and how to set up a game with friends.

Every game is open to women

PitchUp games are mixed. There is no men's list and no women's list: anyone with an account can book a spot. Each match page shows the format, the surface, the price and who has already joined, so you can see the group before you book and pick a game that feels right.

Games are mixed level too, from people who haven't played since school to regulars. Hosts are rated by players, and the app has community rules, a report button and a moderation team that aims to review reports within 24 hours.

Where to play

  • BME Sporttelep, Újbuda (XI.): the busiest venue, with 5v5 and 6v6 on artificial turf several times a week, 2,000 to 3,000 Ft a spot.
  • Városliget Mini Arena (VI.): the closest regular venue to central Pest, 6v6 on floodlit turf, usually 2,000 Ft.
  • Panoráma Sportközpont (II.): weekend games including 11v11, with changing rooms, showers, parking and a café.
  • Budapest Garden FC, Zugló (XIV.): floodlit turf with changing rooms and showers, 3,000 Ft.

Which format to start with

If you're new to pickup football or coming back after a break, 6v6 is the easiest start: the pitch is small enough that you're always involved, but there's room to catch your breath. 5v5 means more touches and more running in short bursts. 11v11 is a full-size match with real positions.

Bring your friends

Going with one or two friends makes the first game easier. Each of you books your own spot, so book together when a game has enough spaces left. If a game is full, join the waitlist: when someone cancels, the next player gets the spot.

Run a women's game of your own

If you'd rather play in a women's game, you can set one up. Anyone with a PitchUp account can apply to become a host, and we reply within 24 to 48 hours. Hosts post games on their own schedule and manage players and check-ins in the host panel.

A host can make a game private. It's listed like any other match, but only players with the host's invite link or code can book a spot. Share the link in your group chat and you have a women's game with a booked pitch, a squad list and reminders, with no chasing people for money.

What to bring

  • Boots for the surface: turf shoes or short studs for artificial turf, firm-ground studs for grass.
  • Shin pads, if you usually wear them.
  • A light and a dark top, in case there are no bibs.
  • Water and cash for the host.

Common questions

Are there women-only games on PitchUp?

Public games are open to everyone. Women's games happen when a host runs one, usually as a private game with an invite link. Anyone can apply to host.

I'm a beginner. Can I still join?

Yes. Games are mixed level, and the match page shows who's playing so you can choose.
